In some parts of the country, energy rates have really gone up and some homes, having deviated in no significant way from their typical energy use, have found their bills nearly doubled because of the rise in rates. As the member of a community, be it Austin or anywhere else on the planet, it’s your unspoken responsibility to spread the word when you see something bad going down, and the best way you can make a difference in your city is by joining a volunteer organization and telling people about the importance of safe and efficient energy usage.
There are organizations like this all over the country that make it their mission to do just that. These programs typically present alternatives that strive to make a positive impact on the environment by promoting efficient and non-disruptive energy use policies. The problem is that some people don’t want to change or don’t realize that efficient energy use can be done with minimal impact on their own everyday lives. These organizations tirelessly spend hours educating people in the business world and children in the schools about Energy Savings options and alternative energy sources. The fact of the matter is that there are other ways to have our cake and eat it too, and it doesn’t always have to hurt the planet.
